Supplements anyone? Supplements aren't intended to replace food but the manufacturers market in a way that have us thinking that we must take a shake or a supplement 🤒 each and everyday.

Supplements can't replicate all of the nutrients and benefits of whole foods, such as fruits and vegetables.
There are no good studies showing that a shake is better than eating whole food.

Whole foods offer three main benefits over dietary supplements:
:white_check_mark:Greater nutrition.
Whole foods are complex, containing a variety of the micronutrients your body needs.
:white_check_mark: Essential fiber.
Whole foods, such as whole grains, fruits, vegetables and legumes, provide dietary fiber. Dietary fiber can help reduce the risk of type 2 diabetes, colorectal cancer, stroke and heart disease.
:white_check_mark: Protective substances.

Many whole foods contain chemicals that promote health, such as antioxidants which can help prevent cell and tissue damage.

There are some people who will benefit from supplements. Those include people who:
-follow a diet that excludes entire food groups
-are pregnant
-have absorption concerns
-have a poor appetite.

There are some vitamin deficiencies that are more common depending on where you live. Vitamin D supplements are recommended if you are not getting enough sun exposure during the winter months. Vitamin B-12 is recommended for vegans.

In most cases you can save your money and try to consume a well balanced meal consisting of whole grains, vegetables, fruits, legumes, nuts, seeds, and plant oils, such as olive oil.
If shakes work for you because you are are on the go then read the labels. Unfortunately, many of the shakes have added artificial coloring and flavoring. as well as added sugar and even cholesterol. 🤭
